The charity is notified of players who receive serious injuries by the RFU Injured Player Welfare Officer. Therefore we will be aware of those who can potentially request funding from us. If you have been seriously injured playing rugby and you feel you may qualify for funding support, contact us at the address given below.
When notified of a seriously injured player, we will contact the family of the player and offer initial help with travel and other expenses to visit the player in hospital and cope with the initial shock of the serious injury.
Once able to assess likely future needs better, there are two basic ways to apply for funding:
- SMALL GRANT APPLICATION
This can provide funding up to £2,000 per year. The application process is very simple, grants are considered and approved by charity staff. In most cases, the funding can be obtained very quickly.
The form to obtain a small grant can be downloaded here:
application form or filled in electronically.
- LARGE GRANT APPLICATION
This requires a more detailed application and assessment process. Whilst there is no limit on what can be applied for, our normal maximum grant is £20,000. This can be applied for in advance of work being done or a purchase being made. The charity can pledge the funds so that the purchase can be planned.
The charity has funded a wide variety of needs and each application is considered on an individual basis. Dependant on individual circumstances, the charity may part or fully fund requests. Large grants have to be approved by the charity’s grant making committee and, if over £5,000, the full Board of Trustees. Decisions can take a number of months to process.
